The Cowardly Lion – about having Courage (in storms)

Courage is something that the poor cowardly lion thought he just didn’t have enough of (if any at all). Sometimes I feel like that lion….

Afraid
Lost
Scared
Lonely
Fearful
Unsure

You know they say when it rains it pours, but a really cool chick named Holly Wagner wrote this, “When it pours, He reigns” and that is so true, isn’t it? In the midst of whatever storm we may be in right now, we need to be strong and courageous…not because of us, but because of Him.

Joshua 1:9Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Do you remember the story of David and Goliath? (You know, the little shepherd boy and the nine foot tall giant) It seems that there are times when it feels like I am the little boy David standing up against the GIANT named Goliath, except my Giant is tailor made to taunt me. I know I can win, I have God on my side yet the giant taunts me, tempts me, and frustrates me. Today there aren’t any modern day Goliath’s (not that I know of), but there are so many other things that are taking on the form of the giant…fear, anxiety, stress…they are coming at us from just about every angle. There are times when it feels as if the only thing you can do is curl up in a ball and hide in the closet…Have you ever felt that way? (come on, I know I am NOT the only one) I LOVE this quote from Corrie ten Boom below;

Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.-Corrie ten Boom

Friends…whatever storm you are in right now know that you are loved and cared for…hold tight, seek Him, pray continually, surround yourself with others that will encourage you, that will lift you up, and who will encourage you to be strong.

Deuteronomy 31:6Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

You are not alone…you never were…pick yourself up…have courage…be strong…just like the cowardly lion, it was there all along, just have faith in yourself, seek the One who loves you more than anything, and get out there and be Courageous like the Lion! (It’s there inside you…really, it is…waiting for you to call on it, to gran for it, and to go for it!)

The will of God is never exactly what you expect it to be. It may seem to be much worse, but in the end it’s going to be a lot better and a lot bigger. -Elisabeth Elliot

  5. Hi Mel, I stopped to visit and seen your lion, very cool. you have a great blog!! cant wait to see your next one of the series.

  6. I like this series, Mel. I know that you’re speaking mainly of inner fear here, but tonight, I was white knuckling it on the highway because I don’t see well at night. I started to panic, and then I told myself, “Christ is here. Jesus is with me. Now caaaaalm down.” I felt his presence and did indeed calm down. Did you know the most frequent command in the Bible is “Fear not”?

  7. Just found this study, and how true that we need not be afraid because God is on our side! Thank you for sharing!
