Unmade Bed

Are you one of those people who have to make your bed every day?

OR

Are you one of those people who really don’t care and usually don’t make your bed?

This is not extremely thought provoking or anything except that I am an EVERY day bed maker. It was an unwritten rule in my house when I was growing up and I just don’t feel ready for my day if it is not made. (weird, I know!)

But today I just didn’t make my bed! SHOCK and horror, I know, but I didn’t!

This whole day has just NOT felt right.

One of my girlfriends is in the hospital right now while they try to figure out why an early 30-something is having a stroke (scary, please pray for her).

My water heater is leaking and about ready to bust (we are waiting for a plumber as I type this).

We had dinner plans with some really nice people tonight at 6pm and we had to cancel (stupid water heater).

We are still putting up Christmas lights (love having them up, really don’t like actually putting them up).

ACK!!!! I am starting to sound like Eeyore…”Thanks for noticing” and I just can’t stand that. So, it makes me wonder, is this all a part of me NOT making the bed today. I mean, can you just wake up, get in a funk, and stay there all day?

Thankfully I found this amazing verse and it brings it all right back home for me.

Check it out, 2 Corinthians 4:16So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now will last forever.”

It may FEEL like it is all falling down around me, but in reality it is all a part of the preparation for the celebration that God has in store for me. Now, that is worth waiting for, right?

But, tomorrow I WILL be making the bed!!!!

Going to Make the Bed,

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your friend Mel. That is young. I pray that she recovers OK. You know those ‘unmade bed days’ do seem to be crazy ones! Like you I always like the beds made and it seems to be on those days when one thing goes haywire that the day continues in a theme of craziness and you get to that point of – surely nothing else, yet on other days, everything just flows. Grace and peace to you!

  2. I have had days like that… it’s good that you were able to gain perspective through scripture, God’s word always works. Always.

I am a bed maker too.

    blessings~

  3. I am a bed maker, too. I often find that I’m up before my sweetie and don’t go back into the bedroom until later in the day. The first thing I try to do is make the bed as soon as I see it. Even when our room was so crazy the bed was always made.

I am sorry to hear about your friend and your stupid water heater. That really stinks. Some of these things strike so strangely out of the blue. I hope they figure out what’s going on.

Our water heater tried to die while we were away a couple of weeks ago. Thankfully it was just the thermocouple and it was a $4.00 30-minute fix.

  4. Sorry about your friend, I will pray for her and wisdom for the doctors also. I am a bed maker but lately it’s ok if it doesn’t get done in the morning(once in awhile)Mel, you passed the test!! you turned to His word, good for you:)God Bless You.

  5. Thanks for visiting me – I did a quick visit here and have enjoyed myself. I will be back when I have more time to look around. I’ll pray for your friend. I take care of a lot of people who have had strokes. Strokes can be so devastating and it’s hard to deal with at her age, although young people recuperate better. I love that verse – what a great promise!

  6. PS – I forgot to answer your question – i am a bed maker. I feel better when that task is done and the bedroom looks good!

  7. Hi Mel, I popped over from Deb’s
You have a nice blog, I am also a must have the bed made pronto in the morning. Must be a woman thing. Hope your friend is doing better & the water heater is working. I will add her to my prayer list.

  9. Karen,
Absolutely NOTHING flowed yesterday and it showed. It was all around yucky and I am so glad it is over.

    Annie,
You are right…God’s Word always pulls me back to the right place.

    Sweet Mummy,
I wish that it was something that simple…two guys came out and want anywhere from 750-850 dollars! Yikes!

    Deb,
I never thought of it that way, but it makes me feel good to think I might have passed the test. Thanks!

    Mari,
Thankfully, she is fully functioning and doing well…completly freaked out and still in the hospital. Please keep praying!

    Nancy,
Thanks for coming by and for your compliments! Please continue to pray for her, her name is Shannon!

  10. there was a time in my life when I always made my bed. always. my life felt so ordered and manageable. and if you’re in a mess it doesn’t look so bad b/c the bed is made! ya, I’m not in those days right now. haha. but it’s not so bad. πŸ™‚

I am sorry you had such a day and prayers for your friend and the water heater!!

  11. Hi Mel! Thanks for stopping by my place – and you don’t need a basement to make wreaths! I made some at my kitchen table too! πŸ™‚

I will be praying for your friend – that is a scary situation.

And I am definitely a bed maker – I’m an overall neat and clean person though. However, my husband says making the bed is “superficial” and since he’s the last one out every day, let’s just say it gets made once in a blue moon! πŸ™‚

  12. I am a make the bed everyday type of girl. That is, unless I am running way behind then I do it on my lunch. I think I am just as weird!!!! So sorry everything seems to be going wrong. I hope that things will turn around and not seem so bad. Have a great day and MAKE YOUR BED!!!! πŸ™‚

  13. Joylene,
I think there are seaons where we feel we have it “all together” and then other seasons where it is just NOT that important to make the bed.

    Laura,
When my hubby is the last out the bed it almost never gets made, but he generally gets up WAY before me.

    Nickernoodle,
Thanks…make the bed, changed the sheets, and reporting for duty! πŸ˜‰ ha!

  14. Yikes, Blogger ate my comments again! Phooey! πŸ™‚

Anywhooo, I see things are now looking up for you! I am late getting over here! So glad things are on the upswing!

I love the scripture you picked, personal fav!

I will be praying for you & for your friend!

Blessings to you in your travels, Mel!

    hugs,
    maria
