Vitamin for Friendship

B-1

I love this! A really cool blogger chick friend of mine “JustaBeachKat” posted this a week or so ago and since I read it I haven’t stopped thinking about it.

It’s so true you know…to have friends you actually have to B-1 first. I have learned over the last four months that there are a lot of friendships that come and go, especially through transition and change, but what I have also realized is that I was never really a good friend to anyone either. This was really hard for me to swallow because I am extremely outgoing, like to have a lot of people around, and have something like 800+ contacts in my outlook file (scary, I know!).

There are times when we have to step back and see the “bigger picture” and what I have seen by stepping back is that I was always using the guise of “I’m too busy”, “I don’t have enough time”, “when things slow down”, etc. THEN I will have time to go do this, go visit her, spend time doing that. When in all reality, I had time, I even did some of those things, but I was never really present in any of them because I was too distracted by the thousands of things that were all demanding my attention all at the same time. (Talk about being out of balance…I was the poster child for it!)

When I was up in North Carolina I spent some time re-connecting with someone that I was friends with. It was great…but you know what I learned…that as I get older I am not going to take for granted the relationships (friendships) that God has put in my life anymore. It takes time, it takes effort, and it will not apply to all 800+ of those contacts in my outlook file, but with God’s guidance and His perfect grace I will find the few who are loyal, loving, and deserving to be called my friends.

I love this verse about friendship that I found in the Message Bible, Proverbs 27:9, Just as lotions and fragrance give sensual delight, a sweet friendship refreshes the soul.

Sometimes you have to let some go, let some fall, and let some new ones in to find those who really love you the most. When you find them; cherish them, pray for them, and thank God for them, because they are a gift.

Finding My Friends,

  1. HI Mel,

This was a great post. I, like you, can get so busy that I don’t have time for all the contacts I like to keep going. I stretch myself too thin or I go into my “hibernation” phase and just shrink back from everyone (very bewildering for those that havent a clue what they’ve done to deserve such treatment, not that they have done anything)

It’s important to cherish those special friendships and nuture them.

Thanks for your encouragement on my Unsettled post. It meant a great deal to me. I’ll keep you posted onthe stepping out front!

  2. Mel, Love the truth and simplicity of this message! We all need reevaluate sometimes! I love that the Word tells us that to have a friend, you must “show yourself friendly”…it takes faith I guess, huh? being willing to take that first step, either to initiate friendship or to reconcile…

Thank you for reminding us all about such an important topic!

  3. Hi Melissa: I am so guilty of using the same excuses, but just like you I have learned to work for those friends that are special in my life. Love the snoopy picture. Love ya..Jules
