The Aliens Came and Got ME!

If I told you that Aliens had come and taken over my house hold you would laugh because it would simply NOT be true. But I have to tell you this…something happened today.

I don’t know if it was some of Kat’s energizer bunny energy left over from after Christmas or if was aliens, but something got into me today and, phew I am glad it has passed.

At about 11:00am the occurance happened…all of the sudden I started cleaning out the end tables, sofa tables, and coffee tables. (They are mission style and open up on one side and have lots of junk, ahem, I mean stuff piled in them).

Then, horror of horrors, I started to pull out the stuff in my pantry.

Now…for you to fully grasp the alien sighting you must realize something about me.
1) I don’t really like to cook
2) I am not very good at it, and
3) I am not one of those spotless clean type people
(I like neat and tidy, but not spotless)

So, when I started to unload the pantry I thought my dear sweet husband was going to pass out on me. I assured him that I was in my right mind (rethinking that statement), and by all means, leave me alone in case it passes.

Can I share something with you that is truly sad, scary, funny, and slighlty embarrassing???

I found boxes of food that expired in 2004 (yep, 2004…I told you it was embarrassing). The pantry shelves are super deep so the stuff in the back tends to stay in the back (apparently for YEARS!!!). I proceeded to purge the pantry of the outdated food and then scrubbed all the shelves.

At this point I was thoroughly dirty, digusting, and just ready for a shower. BUT…I had one more cleaning attack left in me…I stripped the beds and put on some fresh sheets and sprayed white cotton linen spray all over them. (I can NOT wait to go to bed tonight, I LOVE fresh sheets!!!)

So, here I am…worn out, bone tired, and ready to unwind by reading your blogs!!!

Oh, before I forget, I wanted to tell you about the aliens… Ephesians 2:19 says, “Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household.

Your Friend the Alien,

  1. You crack me up Mel !! This post was hilarious ! But seriously, next time the aliens come, see if they can give you a ride to Australia and you can do my pantry !! ha ha.

Looking forward to Chapter 2 tomorrow !! 🙂 Really lovin’ this book !!

  2. You are a hoot! I sorted out my pantry a few days back too, I seemed to create more of a mess pulling everything out and then deciding to re-arrange a few kitchen cabinets all at the same time…but it’s all good now. Made me think of the pruning process, emptying out the pantry, looks a big mess during the clear out, but so much more productive and ‘fruitful’ when re-arranged and all the excess out of date unused bits gone.

    xxx

  3. Great post! Unfortunately, when the aliens clean out my house they leave everything in the garage and then it takes me months to get it all to Goodwill! Stupid aliens.

  4. Woo hoo

    Go Mel!

Once in a blue moon the mood strikes me … but its been a while! I laughed at your 2004… I was cooking chilli at my Mums house one night and it was just not spicing up … I kept adding spice and nothing changed. Finally I took a look at the date and I was using chilli powder that was 15 years old … so then I went into her cupboard and had a cleaning blitz … the oldest thing went back to the early 70s (and this was early 90s) … good on you!

  5. Hey Melissa,

Please send the aliens my way. Can do with “them/it” for a few hours in my house.

    Gezina.

  6. Those aliens were in Michigan a few weeks ago. I think they may be planting expired foods, because when they were here, I found things like that in my pantry too!

  7. YEAHHHHH, the alliens came to your house too. Well you know they come to my house all the time…That was a funny one…Goooo Melissa, Juliana

  8. You do crack me up!! I cleaned out all of our old out dated medicine’s and there was a ton of expired cold medicine. Are we in a early spring clean?? oh no its the aliens thats right:)

  9. Yikes!! They have (aliens) visited here too, but it was a few years ago.. I need them to come again…LOL!!!

  10. Those aliens were in my medicine cabinet and in the closet where I keep cosmetics. Have you ever smelled skin cream from 2002? It really smells G-0-0-D! The aliens had to throw out tubes of old creams and medicine from 2001. I love those guys when they come, but hope they don’t stay away as long this time. LOL!

  11. I’m right there with you…I’ve found out dated food in my pantry and meds in my cabinets…but it always feels good when we purge our cabinets, drawers and closets…you go girl!

  12. You guys are too sweet…thanks for not laughing AT me (just with me) about the food from 2004…;)

Oh, by the way, I am still trying to pick dear sweet hubby off the floor.

  14. in line with your cleaning blitz I will share a story…

When my husband and I first moved to GA we lived with his mom and grandma for a while (a looooong while. 7 months) till we figured out if we were going to stay and stuff like that. So one day I made pancakes and found some syrup. I poured it all over my fresh pancakes and took a big bite.

    “This tastes funny!”

I looked at the back of the syrup and it was 12 years outdated. I cleaned out their fridge for them then and there!! 🙂

  15. what a funny post!

I scrubbed my bath tub today and mopped my floor. It felt so good to clean!

I am not usually like that either-but oncw I get started I feel like I have really accomplished something!

  16. you crazy woman!! Made me giggle. I get days like that when I have to clean EVERYTHING in sight. Is that a woman thing?

  17. Must have been aliens everywhere because I’ve been cleaning out my kitchen cupboards and pantry too.

  18. Melissa~ I did the EXACT SAME THING on Sunday after church! I went to get something out of the pantry and four things fell on my heaD! I ended up cleaning out all of my kitchen cabinets (let me tell you it wasn’t pretty!)while Jorge and 2 of his friends watched football! It was a chore but everything looks so nice!

I also had a Close Encounter!

  19. Reminds me of the Petra song…we are not of this world. We are aliens 🙂 hee hee! At that point, we’d put our two index fingers up on our heads like antennae!

So glad for your cleaning craze…that makes creativity flow so much better.

  20. I get in those moods every once in a while! I remember when I was a teenager and we cleaned out the pantry, we found a jello box hidden in the back that was almost 10 years old. I mother was horrified! Too funny!
