Happy Birthday Nick!

Today is St. Patrick’s Day, and that it and of itself is a pretty big deal when your family is IRISH, which we are, but what makes today even MORE special is that today is my oldest son, Nick’s, birthday!

Yes…he is a St. Patty’s day baby, and NO, we obviously didn’t name him Patrick, although if it were up to the nurses at the hospital that day he would be. Ha! Seriously, after 19 hours (yep, 19 hours, BOTH kids) of labor, I would have named him almost anything for him to hurry up and get out. (heehee)

What is even more amazing about this special young man is that we almost lost him 2 1/2 years ago. He is our modern day miracle and we know that God saved him for a reason. The picture below was taken the afternoon before he went into grand mal seizures. Little did we know that when this picture was taken at 6pm that in 12 hours our whole world would come crumbling down around us.

You could never tell from this picture that his body was filled with toxins and was beginning to shut down, but that just goes to show you, just because everything “looks” ok on the outside doesn’t necessarily mean that it is ok on the inside. He spent 51 days in the PICU and we almost lost him 3 times…it was absolutely the worst days of my life and I thank God each and every day for allowing us to walk through that storm and come out on the other side a stronger, tighter, and more faith filled family.

Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Romans 8:28 – And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

John 16:32b – Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me.

And here we are…on the other side of a nightmare singing praises to Him, the Creator of the Universe, for the gift of family, and in this case, for saving our son Nick. We know that God has something extra special planned for his life and we are so grateful to have such an amazing young man in our family.

Philippians 4:13 – I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Happy 14th Birthday Nick!

All my love,
Mom

  1. Happy Birthday to Nick! What an amazing story. I have a bracelet with the verse from Jeremiah on it. I do love that verse!

  2. How awesome having a St Patricks Day baby and having Irish roots. Ok, come on I’m nosey – do tell. Where in Ireland do your kin folk come from and when did they come to the states? I love, love, love family history and hearing about the sea voyages, the experiences of ancestors. Scary start for your son, and he looks so great now. So both your children are March babies? How cool.

  3. What a scary time. That must have been horrible. God must have something incredible planned for him.

  4. I have that same verse as Shaelyn’s life verse – I love it. It is scary when you go through those types of things – How can you do it if you don’t have faith in God who’s in control of it all? Happy Endings

  8. What a testimony to Jesus!

I too am interested in knowing what led up to the seizure.

I am encouraged to hear that you are praising God for allowing you to walk through that storm and that you have come through the other side with a stronger faith and more connected family. I can relate to that. Thanks for the encouragement!
