TRUST

Relying on God has to begin all over again every day as if nothing had yet been done.
-C.S. Lewis

How could such a small word carry so much in it? Think about it…when you hear the word trust what comes to mind?

According to Dictionary.Reference.com TRUST means this:
1) reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing; confidence.
2) Confident expectation of something; hope.
3) A person on whom or thing on which one relies; God is my trust.

My personal favorite definitions listed above is number two and three…”A Confident Expectation of Something; Hope…A person on whom or thing on which one relies; God is MY Trust”. Doesn’t that sound like what we do when we put our faith and trust in God?

I love it!!! While I was reading my Message Bible I found this golden nugget in the book of Romans. Check it out.

Romans 4:1-3 -So how do we fit what we know of Abraham, our first father in the faith, into this new way of looking at things? If Abraham, by what he did for God, got God to approve him, he could certainly have taken credit for it. But the story we’re given is a God-story, not an Abraham-story. What we read in Scripture is, “Abraham entered into what God was doing for him, and that was the turning point. He trusted God to set him right instead of trying to be right on his own.”

Slow down and chew on that one for a minute. Isn’t it just awesome to sit and drink in the words about Abraham and his faith…

Now, let’s go on down and finish the rest of this great story about TRUST.

Romans 4:4-5 If you’re a hard worker and do a good job, you deserve your pay; we don’t call your wages a gift. But if you see that the job is too big for you, that it’s something only God can do, and you trust him to do it—you could never do it for yourself no matter how hard and long you worked—well, that trusting-him-to-do-it is what gets you set right with God, by God. Sheer gift.

Why is it so hard to TRUST?
Is it the pain and disappointment that life so sneakily deposits on our lives?
Is it our own selfishness?
Is it because that is what the world has taught us to do?

Is it us?

While I was doing my research to write this I found out that the word TRUST is in the Bible one hundred and sixty four (164) times. Is that crazy or what? I am guessing this is not a new “issue” for people, this did not come as a surprise to God and He has written in His Word ways for us to learn to TRUST. Look what I have found.

Psalm 9:10 Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.

Psalm 19:7 – The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple.

When the storms of life seem to be overbearing and you feel you are drowning, you can cling to this…

Psalm 28:7 – The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.

Cry out and pray this to Him…

Psalm 56:3 – When I am afraid, I will trust in you.

Psalm 86:2 Guard my life, for I am devoted to you. You are my God; save your servant who trusts in you.

And when you just don’t understand why…

Proverbs 3:5Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

Isaiah 26:4 Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal.

and because you put your TRUST in Him…

Jeremiah 39:18 – I will save you; you will not fall by the sword but will escape with your life, because you trust in me, declares the LORD.’ “

Romans 15:13 – May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Friends, I know it can be hard to TRUST, believe me, you have NO IDEA how I can relate to this.

I have been hurt,
I have been disappointed,
I have been burned,
I have felt the sting of rejection,
of betrayal,
of lost friendships,
of lost dreams,
but I also know that we are living in a fallen world,

and we have to remember this…Romans 3:10
As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous – not even one.”

I want to be free of the burden of the junk, I want to TRUST in what God has in store for me, and I know HE wants you to do that too! Release it and TRUST in Him to guide you to the next step.

Whatever it is, Whatever you are dealing with, Wherever you are, it is NOT a surprise to Him and He is just waiting for you and I to TRUST Him enough to handle the situation.

Let me pray for us before you leave…

“Dear Heavenly Father, thank you so much for your grace and goodness. You are a great and mighty God and we are so blessed to be called your children. Thank you for the gift of TRUST Father. Show us Father how we can learn to TRUST you more, lean on you more, and give more to you. Help us to know that you have a great and perfect plan for our lives. Father guide our steps as we seek to be more like you each and every day. In Jesus Precious Name, Amen!”
