Speak to My Soul – Get Your Priorities Straight!

Are you completely out of balance?

Do you struggle prioritizing what is really important?

Do you want to figure out what you are supposed to do FIRST?

It is so hard in today’s world to try to be everything to everyone, isn’t it? You want to be “everything to everyone” but in all reality it is just not possible, so you flit, you flop, and sometimes you can even fail.

It’s not a bad thing to fall on your face sometimes. As a matter of fact, it has been in the times when I have fallen on my face that I was in the exact right place for God to speak to me as to what is really important to Him and in my life.

I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I have personally struggled with the word “Balance” in my life. I think we have this vision in our heads of a perfect circle and when our lives are “in balance” it makes one continuous line, but in all reality life is more like a roller coaster (or wobbly circle) with highs and lows. Sometimes the highs are really high (I like to refer to that as a “Mountaintop Experience”) and the lows can be really low (like Beth Moore says “in the pit”).

You know when I seem to notice it the most? Being out of balance, that is. When I have neglected to do the things that God has called me to do FIRST! Seriously, if we don’t take the time to get our priorities straight how on earth do we expect to get balance?

Well, the first thing we need to do is this, put God FIRST!
Deuteronomy 30:16 ~ For I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.

Once we get ourselves right with God and our day going in the direction He has planned for us, the next thing we need to do is take care of our husband SECOND!

Ladies, this is for us… Esther 1:20 ~ …all the women will respect their husbands, from the least to the greatest.”

Does it mean that you don’t take care of yourself, no, that is not what I am saying, but I am saying that our husband’s need to be the VERY next thing on our priority list right after God. You are bound to this man til death do you part, don’t you think it makes sense to get to know him, to love him, to cherish him?

Ok, so we’re starting to get more focused. We’ve spent time with God FIRST, our Husband’s SECOND, and now what? Yep, then come the kids.

Your kids need you now more than ever. There is an enemy that is prowling around like a roaring lion waiting to devour our kids and win them over to his side (1 Peter 5:8). We need to know that kids can’t raise themselves, and yet they are not our first priority. Yes…of course, we love them, care for them, and nurture them, but how can you give them your best if you are out of balance and your priorities are not in order?

Deuteronomy 11:19 ~ Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

Are you starting to see a pattern here?

In order to get your PRIORITIES straight it will take some time, some discipline, and a whole lot of prayer, but don’t you deserve to live in balance?

Listen…after (can I stand on a chair and scream this one loud enough for you to hear me?) you take care of those top three you need to decide what is next for you and your family.
· Is it work?
o A ministry?
§ Friends?
· Other Family Members?
o Your Church?

Whatever it is can’t take priority over those top things. (God gave you these to you, you should know they are His gift to YOU!) Now…are your top three things always going to be perfectly in sync, probably not, but let me tell you this…they will go a whole lot smoother.

Listen, I’ll be perfectly honest with you, I totally struggle with this “Priorities/Balance” thing, but since I have started to 1) Put God FIRST, 2) Put my Husband SECOND, and 3) Put my Kids THIRD, and then add in the other things that are important to me (my business, my friends, my writing, my Bible Studies, my internet time) I can keep myself in check.

Let’s face it, there are several things that are vying for our attention ALL THE TIME, but you, my dear sisters, just like I, NEED TO GET OUR PRIORITIES STRAIGHT. It’s not what the world would have us do, but as it says in John 15:19 ~ If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.
