Welcome to Christmas in Mel’s World

Welcome to Christmas in Mel’s World!

I know I am a little late getting started on the 2008 Christmas Tour of Homes hosted so graciously by the wonderfully fabulous BooMama, but I am here now and ready to invite you in to my home for a bit.

Come on in through the front door (nope, it’s not rustic, it just plain ole needs to be replaced, but I like the way it’s starting to look “rustic” now) I’m so glad to see you here.

When you first come in the door there is one of my favorite little spots in the house. It’s like the center of Mel’s World. Lots of things happen around these steps (friends come and go, the kids run like wild animals, and also where I pace when I talk on my phone).

Right over the dining room table is where I tried to be a little more “creative” this year. I love the way the lights look in this picture. (Believe me, it took me about 20 tries to get it to come out right) I grew up in a small town outside of Louisville, KY, so even though I live in South Florida my house always tend to have a little bit of “country” in it.

This is our tree…yep, it’s TALL! I cropped all the other stuff off that was around this picture (1) because it was more than a little “untidy” and (2) because I really love this tree. We used to have those GIANT big round trees but our house just does not work well with those trees so we had to move on to the Chicago Slimlines (they’re starting to grow on me now).

Even our little palm tree got into the Christmas spirit this year. You can’t tell it from this picture but the ornaments are red and gold balls…it came out really cute.

Upstairs on the landing we have another tree, this one’s the “kids” tree. It has ONLY the ornaments they have made throughout the years. Some of them go on the downstairs tree then all the rest (we have two shoeboxes full) go on this tree.

For some reason the tree is “leaning” a bit and we can’t quite figure out what happened, but that could also be because my twelve year old son put the entire thing together. (As a matter of fact he puts ALL the trees together and decorated the banister as well…he’s got some BIG TIME Christmas spirit)

When you head upstairs you’ll see that we hang our stockings on our banister. Living in South Florida we really don’t have much of a need for a fireplace, so we have to get a little bit creative on where to hang our stockings.

These are a few of my favorite ornaments, of course, the cross is the center of this picture because at our house the cross is the most important thing to us. I’m thinking of adding another tree next year (not exactly sure where) that only has cross ornaments…my sister in love has one at her house in B’ham, AL and I just love it.

And last, but certainly not least, is our little nativity set. We’ve has it since the boys were little (they aren’t so little anymore, at almost 13 and almost 15 they are growing young men now) and it brings back so many memories of them growing up. It is also a sweet and simple reminder that Jesus is the Light of the World, and He is the reason for this amazing season!

Thanks so much for stopping by to visit with me and the family this Christmas. I pray your Christmas is happy, healthy, and full of Him!

Merry Christmas from Mel’s World!

  6. I love it!! I think it’s so fun looking at all the different decor! Mine went up too except I didn’t sign up to do the tour…

I have a 9 foot tree that I am thinking about trading for a “skinny” 9 footer. Yours makes me think I’d like that very much.

    Have a great weekend!
