The Key to Experiencing More

Last Christmas my husband surprised me with a Garmin GPS System. Well I should not have been surprised because in the past year I proved to be directionally challenged. I was excited to have this device direct me to where I was going. I could sit back, hit “go” and follow directions. There was no fear of getting lost and I arrived at my destination safe and sound. Don’t you wish the Christian walk was similar to owning a Garmin? A person can have their morning devotions, tell God where they want to go, “hit go,” sit back and have God lead?

Our relationship with God and our spiritual growth is a “progressive” relationship. Webster’s Dictionary defines progressive as continuous improvement, going forward or onward, favoring or advocating progress, and change. As Christians we need to be moving forward in our spiritual growth, but that does not mean we always know where God is leading. So unlike a Garmin where you have your route all mapped out, God instead is asking, “Do you trust me?”

My experience this last year has been God leading me into the unknown asking me over and over, “Do you trust me?” This last year I said yes and I followed Him. He led me into public speaking, he led me towards teaching, he provided many opportunities where my human emotions were very scared, but God reminded me of Ephesians 3:20 “to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” I did not have the route all charted out, I could not see where God was leading, but He said “Come, follow me and let me show you what I can do through you.”

God wants to use every one of us, unfortunately only a few will say yes. Like all of us do— like I did— and just like Moses did in Exodus 4:10 when he said, “I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant,” we give God excuses why he should not use us. God does not want to hear our limitations, he does not care, because it is not your abilities he wants to use, but God wants to display His abilities through you. In return all the glory is given to God for the great things He has done. As we enter into Thanksgiving and wrap up 2009, I challenge you to say yes when God asks “Do you trust me?” The road will not be mapped out, you will not know where God is leading, and sometimes it can be very scary but in the end God will do immeasurably more than all you ask, dream or imagine.

  1. I'm so glad Lori is a godly gal! As one who has met Lori in person and seen her use this gadget to get around town, I can say that it really is true. I also want to say how proud I am of her stepping out in faith even when she's scared. I do believe the Lord has called her to teach and speak and I know He will use her for His glory.

    I can't wait to come and hear her speak sometime.
