Godly Gals ~ Lynn Mosher

A Pretend or Real Bride?
By: Lynn Mosher

When Melissa asked me to be a part of her Thursdays Godly Gals, I was extremely honored. Puzzled about what to write, I prayed until it became evident.

In 2000, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and, six months later, the Lord whispered to my heart that He wanted me to write for Him. I began a book based on the ancient, Hebrew twelve-step betrothal process. Each chapter is applicable for living a holy life while waiting for the Lord, our Bridegroom, to return.

Since then, the Lord has impressed it upon my heart that holiness is not an option. Christians are to live as that holy bride He longs to snatch away. God told Israel, “I am the Lord your God. Keep yourselves pure concerning these things, and be holy, for I am holy.” (Lev. 11:44 TLB)

The writer of Hebrews exhorts us, “Seek to live a clean and holy life, for one who is not holy will not see the Lord.” (Heb. 12:14 TLB) And Paul tells us, “Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.” (Phil. 1:27 NIV)

When I was very young, I had the most precious grandmother, who was overweight. She had two dresses made of satin, one was pink and the other was blue, each with matching shoes. I loved playing wedding in her dresses and shoes.

I have no pictures from that time but I must have been a hilarious sight, tripping over her voluminous dress as it wrapped around my tiny body four or five times, clunking around in her colossal shoes, and, of course, dangling from the top of my head was a veil, a very, long train of toilet paper!

Back then…I pretended to be a bride. But now…I do not want to pretend. I want to be that pure, spotless, unblemished Bride for my Bridegroom. I want to be the real thing for Him. No clunking around!

When my Beloved returns, how will I look? Will I be wearing a mopey face, hair covered in the ashes of doubt and worry, breath smelling of negative words, and a ratty old wedding gown of self-pity, ripped and stained, full of the filth of the world?

Or will I be “a bride beautifully dressed for her husband,” (Rev. 21:2 NIV) adorned with a smile on my face, joy in my heart, songs of praise on my lips, dressed in a pure, white garment of salvation and righteousness, and crowned with the gift of the Bridegroom?

God’s holiness dictates no less than our uncompromised purity; His righteousness demands no less than our unconditional surrender.

When the heavenly Bridegroom returns, how will you be dressed? What will He find you doing? Are you keeping yourself consecrated to the Lord in holiness? Are you ready to meet Him?

Lynn lives in the empty Mosher nest in Kentucky and takes care of the Big Rooster. On occasion, the three offspring, who have flown the coop, come to visit, accompanied by a lovable son-in-law, and now, three little granddaughters also come to visit. Lynn’s passion is writing that will bring glory to the Lord and peace, comfort, and benefit to others. Lynn writes over at her blog, called Heading Home, stop by some time & visit.

  1. I have to say …I love Lynn Mosher. And yes, she’s a godly gal. So glad she participated Mel.

And Lynn, your words are so true. We are to be holy and grow in holiness. I believe that when we put Romans 12: 1-2 into practice daily we will grow to become more like Jesus.

I love your story of your grandma. I may need to explore your book you wrote too.

Love you and Merry Christmas to you,
    Debbie
