Godly Gals ~ Karen Hammons

Pulled Out of the Pit
By: Karen Hammons
“I have done this so many times. Why?!  How could I have done this again?? I know God has something better for me than this. Why do I constantly fall walk into comparing myself to others?  It always takes me into this unhealthy cycle that is so destructive. Christ didn’t die for me to act and live like this!”

Those were some of the thoughts I had from a situation recently.  It took a long soak in the Word and in His presence to begin getting to the root of it all. I can’t entirely blame the Enemy on this one because the truth is I allowed him to take me there.  Psalm 73 was the balm for my weary soul and the place where God met me. The place He began healing me.

 “But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold. For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.”  {Psalm 73:2-3}

Notice that it says when we look at the “wicked” or someone who appears to have it better than us, we take our eyes and focus away from God. Girls, we CAN’T take our eyes off of Him for a moment. He never takes His eyes off of us. Once we start taking our focus off of Him, between our flesh and the Enemy we WILL (not maybe) begin to slip into sin.

“When my heart was grieved and my spirit embittered, I was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before you. Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” {Psalm 73:21-24,26}

No matter where we are at in our lives He is always there. He is there to meet us in the middle of our envy, pride, idolatry, addictions, hurts, offenses, SIN, etc. He meets us there so He can pull us out of that pit.

Why?

Because He loves His daughters and sons. Out of His love for us He holds our hand. He gives us counsel. He places His power in us. His love is bigger than our mistakes, failures, and sin.

Girls, we have an amazing God that is HUGE with love and power {Ephesians 3:17-19}. We will never fully understand it, but as we grow in Him each day our understanding will grow deeper.  Our faces will become more radiant from His presence in us. And our lives will begin shining more of His love to a world that so desperately needs Him.

In His overwhelming love,
Karen

A Little Bit About Karen…

What a great reminder for us all Karen…thank you so much for sharing with us today!  I love that He can use ordinary women like us to do extraordinary things for His glory…isn’t that amazing?
Ladies…that’s what He wants to do…He wants each and every one of us to “take our everyday, ordinary lives and place it as an offering to Him” (Romans 12:1 TM).  You can do that at home, at the grocery store, at the park…just about everywhere…but have you ever thought about doing that here as a Godly Gal?
I’m lining up posts for the Fall 2010 and would love to have you join us on this amazing journey.  Send me an email at melsworldministry {at} gmail {dot} com and I’ll send you a copy of the submission guidelines.  I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
Come back next week as we visit with Godly Gal, Ronel Sidney from Mommy Accountability.
