Godly Gals ~ Lindy Abbott

Fall Into His Ever-Loving Arms
By: Lindy Abbott
The colors burst forth autumn. Cinnamon, caramel and pumpkin spices fill the air.  A gentle breeze lifts orange, brown and yellow leaves into a dancing swirl. Dry wood is chopped and stacked all ready to be crackling in a warm fireplace. Oh, the restful joy of fall is a chance to consider our pace, our love and our load.

Most people see fall as a time to increase the pace of life – school starting, holidays coming, decorations needing to be readied for their annual display. Before you begin the rush of the season, take time to fall into the God’s ever-loving arms.  You have enough hours to get done everything He wants you to accomplish.

The Bible is clear stating, “to everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven” (Eccl 3:1 NKJV). When you start to scuttle pressed by your list of to-dos, pause in the presence of God. When you feel like a scarecrow flapping straw arms in the wind, let God order you steps. He will remove the un-necessary, and prioritizes your day.  When we trust God with our agenda, He will make everything beautiful in its time (Eccl 3:11).

Almost three decades ago, in the fall, I met a young freshmen student at a university and we never looked back. Since then I cherish the glow rekindled in my soul as I reminisce our early days of dating and young married life at the beginning of every fall.

Similarly, God is the eternal first love of our heart. We don’t have to be concerned for the cares of this world. God will more than provide for bare necessities. He blesses us with grace, peace, joy, forgiveness, and a thanksgiving that is not seasonal. We are more than conquerors with Christ Jesus reigning over our daily predicaments (Romans 8:37). Trusting in His provision we can set our primary focus on loving Him.

Storms will come, just as certain as the fields will wither and brown. When our load weighs us down, we need to remember we are simply pilgrims passing through this world. As we change our focus onto eternity our burdens naturally lighten, falling into His capable arms. Our home, our eternal destination is a place of majesty prepared for us by our King, Christ Jesus.

Dear God, thank you for first loving me, so that I can know You and love You. Keep the hours of my day ordered according to Your plan. Help me remember I can always fall into your arms to be lifted up and comforted.  And truly Father-God, You are all I need. Thank you for staying close to my heart and preparing for me a home in heaven.
