Top 3 Most Embarrassing Moments

…and lessons I have learned from them!
There’s many things in life that happen that we’d love to be able to sweep under the rug and walk away from.
The things we’d love for no one to know about us, but in the reality is that we all fall short (Romans 3:23), so why not take off the mask and finally get real with each other.
Not to commiserate, not to feel sorry for each other, but to show the ups, the downs and everything in between and truly seek out the JOY on this journey!
Here are my Top 3 Most Embarrassing Moments;
#3 – 2000 – Walking into Ruby Tuesday’s at the mall with my family and tripping over a step in the pavement and crashing face first on the pavement right in front of the mall entrance. The ambulance was called and I had my bumps & bruises taken care of…all in front of a crowded mall audience.
Oh yeah…that’s embarrassing!
#2 – 2003 – Rushing to Beach Fest down on the Ft. Lauderdale Beach. There was close to 100,000 people there, they closed off part of the Ft. Lauderdale strip for the crowds and my family was rushing to see Toby Mac & Third Day in concert on the beach. I was keeping a “watchful eye” on my kids and wasn’t paying attention to the grates around the palm trees on the sidewalks and twisted my ankle and came crashing down right there on the Ft. Lauderdale strip. Tons of people saw me and were screaming across the road to make sure I was ok, while I sat there with a bloody elbow and knee.

Holy Moly…that was embarrassing, but…we stayed for the concert and had an amazing night!
#1 – 2011 – LAST NIGHT! We went to a gala event down in Miami to benefit GCA (Great Commission Alliance, our partners in ministry in Haiti). During the middle of the event I started to feel queasy. Hot & cold flashes, then I knew what was coming next. I quickly packed up my purse and phone, turned to the couple we went with and told them I wasn’t feeling well and took off through the maze of tables and chairs.
Only to make it to the ballroom doors where I proceeded to throw up all over the ballroom doors. I collected myself and made it a few steps down the hallway to the lobby where I couldn’t take another step. It was absolutely one of the most horrific and violent “episodes” I have ever had. I stood there shaking, in pain, sick, scared, embarrassed and in shock. Next thing I knew I was whisked to the women’s restroom where hotel staff started to take care of me.
A couple of friends happened by (thank you Jesus) and took over caring for me. They proceeded to clean me up (at this point I was covered from head to toe in yuckiness), get me ginger ale, towels, a chair and everything else I needed to get cleaned up. They got my husband, the rest of our party and we quickly left the hotel.
Yes! This is absolutely THE MOST embarrassing moment of my life!
But…here’s what I learned through all three of these;
1) In each of these embarrassing moments of my life I was surrounded by people who I love and love me. They know that I am not perfect and love me because of it. They love me in good times and bad times.
A friend loves at all times,
   and a brother is born for a time of adversity.
2) We need people in our lives! Life is too hard to go at it alone!
Two are better than one,
   because they have a good return for their labor:

 If either of them falls down,
   one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
   and has no one to help them up.

Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
   But how can one keep warm alone?

Though one may be overpowered,
   two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
3) Love comes not only in words but in actions. Last night when I was at my absolute worst a friend sat at my feet in the bathroom and cleaned me back up so that I could walk out of the bathroom with “my head held high”.
Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.1 John 3:18 NIV
Life…is full of ups and downs. It’s not going to be easy, it’s not going to go the way “we” think that it should, but even in some of the most embarrassing moments of our life we can see that God was right there us.
Holding us up,
cleaning us off, and
comforting us
through those He’s brought into our lives!
Thank you sweet friends for being Jesus with skin on for me…I am humbled by the gift of your friendship.
