Godly Gals ~ Terri Porta

The Bless Box
By: Terri Porta
An amazing thing occurred a while ago. I asked God what to pray about for a friend of mine, and once I got the answer I got praying. About six weeks later she text me and said, “Thank you for your prayers! I’m pregnant!” This got me thinking about a fun activity for the whole family called, the Bless Box.

The bless box is a box, or file, or notebook, that you can fill with all of God’s answers to prayers in your life, big or small. You may have heard that old hymnal, “Count Your Blessings Name them one by one…” When you see how many times God blessed you throughout your life, and then how many times he pulled you out of the soup, you get really thankful for him. And thankfulness is oil in the machinery of life

It is also God’s will for us to be thankful. 1Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing, give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. The bless box, with all its tattered slips of scribbled papers makes it easy to do just that. In fact we even started putting not only the answers to prayer but the requests in there too. Once they get answered—in whatever way they get answered– we take them out and replace them with the how’s and what’s of answers we received.

I get so blessed when I look back over the weeks, months and years and see his hand of protection and blessing! Sometimes we forget the little blessings along the way. It becomes so much easier in those times of frustration and or heartache to go to that little box and see all the places God’s promises came to pass in life.

I was amazed as I started seeing the vast reach of his hand over every area of my life.Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

The last time I checked, I saw little things like this:

I found my favorite creamer on sale at the grocery store, two-for-one when I would have only had enough to pay for one.

Today I discovered a great plot twist while writing my new fiction novel for young adults!

Every place I went today, I missed all the lines!

A friend, who has a son a little older than my son, dropped off a couple of sacks full of boys’ clothes.

Today, I heard that a transaction I’m working on is going to come through.

Today, my husband got a new client!

Blessings abound everyday and the bless box will help you remember them! God bless and thank you for allowing me to share!
