What is Coaching?

Coaching combines listening and asking the right open-ended questions to help you discover the solution to whatever is keeping you from moving forward.

It also can help you as you uncover the vision for your life and help you figure out the next steps for you to move forward toward your goal. You don’t have to do this alone, we all need someone to speak into our lives in different seasons. The beauty of entering into a biblical coaching partnership is that the entire coaching process is grounded by the truth of Scripture and each session is covered in prayer before we even meet.

AWARENESS – Where are you right now? This is a chance to understand your past and present story at this moment in time.

VISION – What is it that you want to accomplish in coaching? What are your goals? This is your vision. My role is to simply help you uncover it.

OBSTACLES – These can be internal and/or external obstacles in your life. We will explore the circumstances and beliefs that might be keeping you from moving forward in the direction of your vision and goals.

PLANNING – How are you going to get to where you want to go? This is the time we start to breakdown your vision and goals to gain clarity for what’s next.

As your coach, here’s what I can do for you. I will speak the truth in love as a guide who is for you and will act as a champion for you as you seek to move forward in faith.

Coaching is not Counseling, Mentoring, Teaching, or Consulting

1
Difference One

Counseling offers a mental health diagnosis or treatment plan that will help their clients to heal. Coaches can work in partnership with counselors and or mental health professionals to provide complete whole care for their clients.

2
Difference Two

Consultants offer their individual expertise and generally observe and advise as to what the next best steps are based on their experience. Their insight can be invaluable to your organization and is another great resource for you as you move forward.

3
Difference Three

Different from mentoring, consulting, or teaching, the goal of coaching is not to tell you how to accomplish your goals or solve your problem through our experience but in essence walking alongside you, helping you uncover the answer or next steps for yourself.

Maximize Your Coaching Session

  • Be an Active Participant – Days before your session, I encourage you to spend thirty minutes or so completing the pre-session focus form. This allows us to make the most of your session time. I also encourage you to block off time after your session to process what we’ve discussed and record your thoughts and action sets in your own words.
  • Think Out of the Box – Much of what we’re going to be working on and through begins in your mind. Real transformation starts there, so be willing to think out of the box about how you see life around you in that moment.
  • It Takes Time – While I would love to say that we will see an aha! moment in one session, the reality is that it usually takes three to six sessions to receive your breakthrough.
  • Give Yourself Grace to be Pliable – Keep in mind that things don’t always go like we think they will. We might have a plan to tackle one specific topic, but then during our session we might hit obstacles or other pressing things that require us to shift our attention during that session.
  • Do the Work – At the end of each session you will receive an email with your action steps as defined at the end of our session. I highly encourage you to take the time, do the work and tackle those action steps to get the results you desire.
