Speak to My Soul – Your Life As Worship
Do you live your life as Worship?
Do you even know what that means?
I know that I struggled for a very long time with the concept of “living my life as worship”. I mean, I had been brought up that “worship” was something you did on Sunday mornings when they sang the songs. You know how it goes, “Praise and Worship”, and it took me many years to finally grasp the concept that my life (my everyday, ordinary life) is considered worship too.Our lives should be an absolute hymn of praise resultng from perfect, irrepressible, triumphant belief. ~Oswald Chambers
In my preparation for this devotional I wanted to take it a little further than normal. I wanted to make this Speak to My Soul devotional something that we could all relate to, that we could all walk away with a nugget that we could apply to our lives TODAY!
While studying I found that just in the NIV (New International Version) Bible the word ‘Worship’ is listed 250 times, In the ESV (English Standard Version) it is listed 189 times, and in TM (The Message) it is listed 544 times. That is a whole lot of “worshipping”, isn’t it? The cool thing is that it is not all the “praise & worship” type of worship that we are used to thinking about.
True worship from the heart, then, means responding to God’s glory and love with our entire being. -Marjorie Thompson The quote from Marjorie Thompson above sums it up beautifully, doesn’t it? I’d love to sit with you over a cup of coffee to chat about this…it makes me excited to be able to even talk about it, but if we were face to face there would be a beautiful opportunity to share our worship together.Let’s take a few nuggets right out of Romans 12:2 and talk about it for a minute, ok? If we want to live our lives as worship, then what do we need to do?
Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.
Take your everyday, ordinary life –> that’s what you do from the time when you wake up until you go to bed.
Your sleeping –> Do you pray before you go to bed? How about when you wake up? Do you thank Him for the gift of sleep to rest/heal your body?
Eating –> Do you bless your food before you eat it? Do you thank Him for the provisions He has given you?
Going-to-work –> Do you thank Him for your job? (come on, no matter how bad it might be, you should be thankful to have a job right now, right?) Do you pray for those that you work with?
Walking-around life –> This is when you’re at the grocery, the ball park, the gym, the drycleaner, and everywhere in between…do you see these as “divine appointments” or just irrating frustrations in your life?
and place it before God as an offering. –> No matter what you do or where you are it is NOT an accident, and if you are going to Live Your Life As Worship then you know that God has you right where He wants you to be.
I love the last part of this verse, it wraps it up so sweetly –>
Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.So, how do you do that? You just get started!
Do you have to be perfect? No.
Do you have to have all the answers? Of course not!
But, you do have to have a willing heart.
That’s all He asks for. Is for us to take that first step. To live your lives as worship begins with a single step, and that is a willingness to be more like Him.
The biggest challenge that any of us will ever have: to really get up in the morning and say, “OK God, what can I do to help somebody else today, how can I be a blessing to somebody else?” –Joyce MeyerWhere are you going to start? It only takes a step…I’ll be here cheering you on, I know you can do it. What an amazing world this would be if we ALL lived our lives as worship to Him!
PS – Leave a comment and let me know which step you are going to take this week…it’s a GREAT time to get started, especially with Christmas only being 11 days away. Be Blessed!Enjoy the Journey,
Thank you so much for your blog, which I’ve really come to appreciate. It’s so important that we continue as a light to the world, especially as Christmas approaches and so many people are more open to hearing about the things of God. Thanks again, Karyn
