Godly Gals ~ Leah Adams

Living Sacrifices
By Leah Adams

As I prayed about what to share, I was reminded ONCE AGAIN of the verses that have been my ever-present friend over the course of the past two years.  God put these verses before me in the summer of 2008 and He has kept them in front of me ever since.  Romans 12: 1-2 NIV says:

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—
this is your spiritual act of worship.
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world,
but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—
his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Little did I know, when He began bombarding me with these verses, that they would bring about a change in my heart and life that would leave me completely speechless.  Well maybe that is a bit of a stretch….I’m not sure I have ever been completely speechless

Yet, He was very serious about me offering my body—who I am and what I do—to Him for His purposes.  If I wanted to go with God to the places that He had for me, I had to cease thinking like the world thinks and begin thinking like He thinks.   What had to change?

EVERYTHING.

I had to come to the point of realizing that my body, my mind, my work, my exercise, my speaking, my
writing, my relationships….everything was to be an offering to Him.  I had to be willing to allow Him to work out of me the things that needed to go and work into me the things that needed to be.

I had to be willing to give up my rights with regard to the ministry to which He had called me.  That was the really hard part.  I love teaching God’s Word.  Speaking about God’s Word lights my fire in huge ways.  It is my passion.  Like any speaker, when the invitations to speak flow in, my happiness meter registers high.

God, however, had other things He needed me to focus on.  So, recently He allowed the speaking opportunities to slow to a trickle.

“What in the world, Lord?  You called me to this.  Am I the one person whose calling is revoked?”

Not on your life.  God was clearing away time for me to write.

“Write?  I’m a speaker, Lord.  What do I write?”

Write your story.

Share the importance of building a godly legacy for the generations that come behind.

And so I did….and I am.  I am almost finished writing a six week Bible study that deals with the legacy that we leave behind for future generations.  It looks at important aspects of our legacy such as our faith, character and more.

Writing is not my first love.  But that is where the ‘sacrifice’ thing comes in.  My writing is part of that living sacrifice.  So is my speaking.  So is my entire life.

A little bit about Leah Adams:
Leah describes herself as the “prodigal son’s sister” after spending several years walking far from the Lord in her twenties. Helping others understand the grace that is offered by Jesus to anyone who will accept it is the passion of Leah’s heart. In a works-based and failure-prone society, grace is a concept that many people have difficulty grasping. Leah’s speaking and writing ministry, called The Point Ministries, seeks to point others straight to Jesus and his amazing grace.

An anointed speaker, author and communicator, Leah lives in Blairsville, Georgia with her husband, Greg. She holds a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Mercer University School of Pharmacy. Leah is a CLASS certified speaker and is currently writing a Bible study dealing with the legacy that Christians should leave for the generations that come behind.
