I LOVE the 80’s

You Know You Grew Up In the 80’s if:

1. You’ve ever ended a sentence with the word SIKE.

2. You can sing the rap to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and can do the Carlton dance

3. You know that ‘WOAH’ comes from Joey on Blossom

4. If you ever watched ‘Fraggle Rock’

5. It was actually worth getting up early on a Saturday to watch cartoons.

6. You wore a ponytail on the side of your head.

7. You got super-excited when it was Oregon Trail day in computer class at school.

8. You made your mom buy one of those clips that would hold your shirt in a knot on the side.

9. You played the game ‘MASH'(Mansion, Apartment, Shelter, House)

10. You wore stonewashed Jordache jean jackets and were proud of it.

11. You know the profound meaning of ‘ WAX ON , WAX OFF’

12. You wanted to be a Goonie.

13. You ever wore fluorescent clothing. (some of us…head-to-toe)

14. You can remember what Michael Jackson looked like before his nose fell off and his cheeks shifted.

15. You have ever pondered why Smurfette was the only female smurf.

16. You took lunch boxes to school…and traded Garbage Pailkids in the schoolyard.

17. You remember the CRAZE, then the BANNING of slap bracelets.

18. You still get the urge to say ‘NOT’ after every sentence.

19. You thought your childhood friends would never leave because you exchanged handmade friendship bracelets.

21. You ever owned a pair of Jelly-Shoes.

22. After you saw Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure you kept saying ‘I know you are, but what am I?’

23. You remember ‘I’ve fallen and I can’t get up’

24. You remember going to the skating rink before there were inline skates.

25. You have ever played with a Skip-It.

26. You remember boom boxes and walking around with one on your shoulder like you were all that.

27. You remember watching both Gremlins movies.

28. You thought Doogie Howser/Samantha Micelli was hot.

29. You remember Alf, the lil furry brown alien from Melmac.

30. You remember New Kids on the Block when they were cool…and don’t even flinch when people refer to them as ‘NKOTB’.

31. You knew all the characters names and their life stories on ‘Saved By The Bell,’ The ORIGINAL class.

32. You know all the words to Bon Jovi – SHOT THROUGH THE HEART.

33. You just sang those words to yourself.

34. You still sing ‘We are the World’

35. You tight rolled your jeans.

36. You owned a bannana clip.

37. You remember ‘Where’s the Beef?’

38. You used to (and probably still do) say ‘What you talkin’ ’bout Willis?’

39. You’re still singing shot through the heart in your head, aren’t you!

  1. Oh my goodness … I do/did 95% of these !!! Ha Ha !! The 80’s was MY TIME for sure !! How old was I ? let’s see ? I would have turned 7 in 1980 … and 17 in 1990. Yeah … there were some good flouresent, tight rolled stonewahed jeans, banana clip (on the side of the head sometimes !!) wearing years in there !! I’ve noticed the flourescent is coming back in here ! Is it there ?

AND … yeah, I still say “What you talkin’ ’bout Willis?” !! There are certain situations where it is the only appropriate response !! ha ha

  2. LOL!

    I am still singing it!

did you see Blake sing it on American Idol?

do you kids hare the 80’s?

or act irritated when they are switching radio stations and you make them stop and liten while you sing to a familiar song?

  3. totally rolling in the floor here. That was the greatest, I grew up in a great decade. Now I have the fraggle rock theme song stuck in my head. And the oregon trail, man I bought two of those games for my home computer!!! ANd the slap bracelets, I must have had 30, and my favorite ones I still have! I know you are but what am I! The I’ve fallen commerical was reinacted in my house ALL the time. Saved by the bell was my FAVORITE SHOW, My first crush was Zack, he was a doll baby, although Slater was cool too. LOL when I read 33 I was singing shot through the heart in my head LOL.

Thank you so much for the comic relief, very much needed right now.

  4. I just love that list!!!! It is sooo true!
    But what about:
“WHERE”S THE BEEF?” No 80’s list is complete without it!
In 1999, when my parents moved from my childhood home, the Skip-It that was stuck in the pinetree by the driveway was still there!!!

  5. OK, thanks for making me feel OLD!!! 🙂 Some of those I remember because they were classic, like the “Where’s the Beef” lady and “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.” The rest? Some of them I’ve never heard of! I was in college in 1980, you babe-in-arms, you! 🙂

I just may go take back what’s on my blog for you. Hmmppf. (Except you move faster than decrepit ol’ me and will get there first! LOL)

  6. I hardly remember any of this? But then I got married in 83 and was raising my sons…am I that old?

  7. HA! I remember all of those. I also remember MTV when they mostly played music, hearing “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” over and over and over and over again on the radio, John Hughes movies, and the California Raisins.

I can’t believe that was 20+ years ago.

  8. This was such a fun post read. I graduated in 1984 so I could relate or have said just about everything you listed. Thanks for bringing back some fun memeories.
    Blessings,
    Linda

  9. Seriously…was that fun or what? When I saw it I was taken back to all the fun times (or was it fast times at Ridgemont High…HA!) that were a part of my teen years.

It feels like it was yesterday (in my head) and yet I wouldn’t go back either…funny. Hindsight is 20/20, but sometimes it is just fun to remember…right?

  10. Yes..yes yes… to all of them. By the time I got to number 38 I was laughing so hard my face hurt. Number 39 put me over the top — I WILL ADMIT IT I WAS SINGING.

  11. That’s so funny – I’m still singing “Shot through the Heart” Ponytails on the side of the head, wow!
Although my kids love Alf – We have the whole series on DVD and they love him. Are the 80’s coming back?

  12. Fast Times at Ridgemont! That was a hoot, at one time! Speaking of only being fun to remember, not to REALLY go back, hubby & I first watched it together while we were dating (teens) …then years later, we thought’d be great to watch again…so NOT as much fun! 🙂

And you and the music! What a blast! Yes I am singing that silly song! You’re a nut! Love ya though!

    This was a blast!

    Thanks!

    Maria
