Waiting…

Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.
~
Psalm 27:14

I am sure some of you are wondering what in the world happened to today’s post. Why on earth is it being posted around the middle of the afternoon instead of first thing Sunday morning (like it normally is) Am I right?

I have been “waiting” to post today. I truly do not like to WAIT on anything, like I have said in the past, I am a “get it done” kind of girl, and well, patience is not one of my strong points. I have struggled for most of the day as I wanted to “get it done” and post it for you, but felt a tug, a pull, and a “brick wall” every time I tried to go ahead and post it. It just didn’t feel right…so, I waited. Rather impatiently I might add, but I waited.

How many times do we as human beings wrestled with waiting?

In a society where drive thru, instant, quick, and convenient are the buzz words that we live by, it’s hard to imagine having to WAIT for anything, and yet, the reality is that we do.

We WAIT at night for our teenage kids to come home.
We WAIT for the results from the doctors office.
We WAIT to see if there is a + sign on the stick for the pregnancy test.
We WAIT for the adoption papers to come through.
We WAIT to see if we will get the job we need to make ends meet every month

We WAIT to see our loved ones come to know Christ as their Lord and Savior.
We WAIT…(you can fill in the blank) _____________

Did you know that WAITING is so not a new concept? It just didn’t start to appear in the 20th century or anything, it has actually been around since before Christ was born.

I found some form of “Wait/Waiting” in the NIV Bible 135 times. I know I know, that is a lot of WAITING going on, but it has to show you (and I) that so many amazing people have had to WAIT through some tough times as well.

Take a look at what I found during my research…

Where should you WAIT?

Proverbs 8:34 Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway.

Sometimes WAITING can be a call to action…

Acts 22:16 And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.’

Micah 7:7 But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.

How should you WAIT?

Hebrews 6:15 And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.

Psalm 5:3 In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.

Psalm 33:20 We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield.

Romans 8:25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.

Psalm 40:1 [ For the director of music. Of David. A psalm. ] I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry.

What happens when you WAIT?

Hebrews 9:28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

Isaiah 30:18 Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!

Isaiah 64:4 Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.

Hebrews 6:15 And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.

Lamentations 3:23-25
23 They are new every morning;

great is your faithfulness.
24 I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him.”
25 The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him,
to the one who seeks him;

I wanted to leave you with a little something that always cheers me up when I have to WAIT…enjoy!

WAITING is not something we endure, it can be something we embrace.

Be Strong and WAIT for the LORD,

  1. Good post Mel … let me add a little, as I found something cool about this as I was studying the other week!

One of the great waiting scriptures – Isaiah 40:31
But they who wait upon the lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary and they shall walk and not faint.

We normally read that in a way that means we wait, and then we are renewed, beat our wings (metaphorically speaking) and fly high! But a whole different meaning comes out when you break down some of the key words and go back to the Hebrew!

Wait – Qavah – means to look for, lie in wait for, linger for, look eagerly for.

Renew – Chalaph. means to pass through, change, sprout again (spring imagery there!)

Mount Up – Alah. Means to ascend, go up, meet, visit, SPRING UP, GROW and SHOOT FORTH! (more spring imagery!)

I love this … not a lot of doing when we wait … but while we wait we are renewed, we change and new things grow! Nothing at all about beating wings and striving … the acscension happens as a natural part of waiting! Waiting, is part of our seasons changing!

  2. Thanks again Mel, I needed this today for I am waiting right now. I need to make a decision on a job offer that opened up to me. Keep me in your prayers. hugs

  3. Great post Mel.

I enjoyed reading your post today. Also, that video/SONG. I love that Song!

Isaiah 40:31 was my first husbands favorite verse. Your friend sassiekiwi put light on it in a whole different way. Never realized that.

  4. Waiting=patience for me.
    So. Not. Easy.
I struggle with being content while I wait & when I need to have patience.
Thanks for your words & the scripture refrences. I need them bad!!
Plus I just love that song, when it comes on in the car…radio blasting & me singing at the top of my lungs 🙂

  5. So often I want to go from point A to point B in the most direct and efficient and quickest way. But God most often has me going in a manner that is full of twist and turns, up and downs etc… I have to remind myself that it’s the twist and turns that grow and teach me to be prepared for what God has for me at point B! And it’s never quick!
Sometimes while I am on that path of twist and turns, up and downs I want to quit and give up.I am reminded that God’s purpose and plan will come to pass in my life and in His timing…oh but the wait is difficult when you want it done yesterday!!!
