WOW, I can hardly believe that it has been a week since we last sat down and soaked up these Psalms. I truly hope that you have taken some time to write some of these down. I know that keeping the Scriptures close and handy has helped me many times.
I have been reading along this week through the book of Psalms and have been blown away at the number of things I have underlined in the past and am underlining now. (Oh yeah, I am one of those “write in your Bible” chicks…I want to know what I have learned, how it impacted me, where I learned the lesson from, and what the date was…I probably should have been a librarian…ha!)
It is my honor and privilege to walk with you this Sunday morning through Book 2 of the Psalms which consists of Psalms 42-72. I have picked out some of my favorites and would love to hear from you if you have any personal favorites as well. If there is a particular reason one is your favorite I would love for you to share that (if you feel like it) as well.
So, here we go, let’s talk a walk and SOAK UP THE PSALMS today.When you are sad, go to
Why am I discouraged?
Why is my heart so sad?
I will put my hope in God!
I will praise him again—
my Savior and my God!
When you sit and wonder who God is, go to
God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.
When life gets so “noisy” and you can’t hear from God, go to
Be still, and know that I am God!
When you want to know what God wants from us, go to
Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God,
and keep the vows you made to the Most High.
Then call on me when you are in trouble,
and I will rescue you,
and you will give me glory.”
When you are overloaded with troubles and burdens, go to
I will praise your name, O Lord,
for it is good.
For you have rescued me from my troubles
and helped me to triumph over my enemies.
Give your burdens to the Lord,
and he will take care of you.
He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.
When you feel like nobody in the world cares about you, just remember how important you are to God…
You keep track of all my sorrows.
You have collected all my tears in your bottle.
You have recorded each one in your book.
When you are lost and cry out to God, go to
O God, you are my God;
I earnestly search for you.
My soul thirsts for you;
my whole body longs for you
And last, but certainly not least, when your heart is so filled with love for your Heavenly Father and it feels like you are going to burst with joy, go to
But I will keep on hoping for your help;
I will praise you more and more.
I will tell everyone about your righteousness.
All day long I will proclaim your saving power,
though I am not skilled with words.
I will praise your mighty deeds, O Sovereign Lord.
I will tell everyone that you alone are just.
That is the cry of my heart; that I would shout from the rooftops just how great and amazing our God is. There are no words that can capture His grace, goodness, and unfailing love, but I know that deep down in the core of who I am that “though I am not skilled with words” that God can and does use the most unlikely people to do things for Him each and every day, and that gives me HOPE.
Come back next week as we continue to Soak Up the Psalms and dive into Book Three (Psalms 73-89). Be on the lookout this week for some of your favorite Psalms in Book Three and also take a few minutes to write down some of the ones that touched your heart this week and put them in a journal you can keep handy.Savoring His Word,
