7 Things Meme

I was tagged by Tara at Tara’s View of the World to list 7 things about me, so here it goes!

1. I have been blogging here in Mel’s World for two years in August 2008. I started a new blog a couple of weeks ago called Mel’s World Travel Biz, where I talk a lot about owning your own home based business (the why, how, and what to do’s necessary).

2. I have a kitty cat named Willie…you can see him here, and just recently a new kitty cat friend has adopted us and his name is Butterscotch. He stays outside, but he is super lovable and a great new addition to the Mashburn family.

3. I have been married to my best friend, Matt, for almost 15 years (can hardly believe it sometimes…ha!). We have two amazing sons, Nick 14, and Bailey 12, they are everything to me. (We have had birthday party month here at our house…check at the beginning of March to see some of the pics).

4. I was born and raised in a small town just outside of Louisville, KY. Check out some of the pics of my last trip here.

5. God radically changed my life in 1994 and I have never been the same again. He has passionately pursued me and in return for His gracious and everlasting love I have decided to passionately pursue all the dreams He has laid on my heart.

6. My oldest son was in a serious health situation back in August 2005 and we almost lost him three times. He spent 51 days in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. I haven’t written about it in complete detail because it still is so very difficult for me. He is now strong, healthy, and is growing in his faith walk each and every day (he knows he was saved for a reason). He has diabetes as a result of the trauma of his condition (pancreatitis), but even today we are optimistic and confident that he will even be able to break free from that as well.

7. About 5 months ago I started my own internet travel company (Mashburn Travel) with my husband and have been enjoying the “perks” and benefits associated with the company (taxes, travel, vacations, commissions, etc.). This new internet travel company was the reason I began the other blog (Mel’s World Travel Biz). It is my goal with that blog to educate and inform people about the benefits of owning your own home based business, some tips and information, and to explain how my travel company works. I am super excited about the adventure that God has me on!

So, enough about me…I know some of you are “squirming” hoping I don’t TAG you, so I won’t…but if you are interested in doing this meme I would love to know that you did it! It’s always great to get to know more about our bloggy buddies!

  1. Hey Melissa – this was interesting. I did this one about a month ago. My middle daughter is also diabetic. She was diagnosed at 19. Does your son use a pump? She has been on the pump for about a year and loves it.

  2. Cool stuff, Melissa! What city outside of Louisville? I was raised in Grayson County (Leitchfield) – which is on the opposite side of E-town. 🙂

  3. Found your blog from Denise. I grew up in Frankfort, graduated from EKU. My brother lives in Louisville, my Mom in Frankfort, my Dad in Lexington, and my sister in Lawrenceburg. I love going back home. Just can’t so much now. You have given me a great idea to go back and take some pictures. I really want to forget most of my life there but it is my past and it formed me to be who I am today! Enjoy your blog.

  4. WOW how interesting. I am so sincerely glad your son is better, I can’t imagine how terrifying that must have been. And Willie? I LOVE him! =^..^=

  5. Glad to get to know you better, Mel! Kentucky isn’t too far from Missouri…I loved driving through it on my way to Florida, so scenic!

I’m doing better now, and Chloe is, too. Thankfully God led us towards the people we needed to talk to, and told us about the herbs we ended up using that have taken away this nasty illness! Praise God!

And I haven’t been blogging too much lately, I’ve been pretty busy scrapbooking…it’s a weakness of mine. Every so often I get in the scrapping mode, and I shut myself off from the world for a couple days. But I have discovered digital scrapbooking now, so who knows the next time I’ll be on!

Anyways, thanks for your concerns! I’ll be back soon to catch up on Mel’s World!

  6. Thanks for sharing this meme. It’s always fun to read them and learn more about you.

I think someday I’ll pop over to your other blog and learn a little bit about home businesses.

  7. Nice blog. Our husband’s have to same name! Plus, I’m from TN. I’m really glad God has worked through your son and your family.

  8. Hi Mel!

I just signed on to YTB about 2 weeks ago. I’m extremely excited! It looks like God is leading us both in the same direction. Bear is currently looking for a full time job. He has a part time job. So, we are drumming up the resources to acquire our store. We are very excited about moving into ABUNDANCE, which is clearly achievable in this business! I encourage ALL of your readers to check out your new blog!

    Best Blessings,
    KJ

  9. Hey Mel, I always enjoy a good meme and this was one of them! So sorry to read about your sun…that definitely is a big scary challenge, that´s for sure. I am so glad he is doing better though.

  10. Hi! I just came across your blog and I LOVE it!!! There is so much we share in common. I love to travel and would love to learn more about your travel business…I am going over to check out your other blog.
