Speak to My Soul ~ High Sounding Nonsense
Colossians 2:8 NLT
Where do you take your direction from?
Is it from God or from the world?
I love this verse in Colossians, as a matter of fact, I love it so much I have it printed out and posted on my back door.
I have two teenage boys and I can never forget that we are in a spiritual battle for them. The school they go to is a public school in a community that is 94% unchurched. Unchurched as in never been in church before or know anything about God. So how hard do you think it is for my two teenage boys to stand out and be a light here in South Florida?
It’s very hard.
I want them to cling to God’s Word. I want them to hunger for it, cling to it, and live by it, and when they are at home they are surrounded by Scripture but when they walk out that back door they step foot right into the world we live in.
The last thing they see before walking out the door to play, go to school, go to work, go anywhere is Colossians 2:8 NLT Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.
No.
Does it change the way the respond to those things?
I sure hope so.
The reality is we are all exposed to High Sounding Nonsense each and every day. Our world, sometimes it is even our friends, family, and co-workers, says it’s ok to tell a little white lie, to cheat a little, to flirt with someone other than your spouse, but God’s Word says otherwise.
When we take the time to study God’s Word we learn what God really wants us to think about. It shows us how to live, how to parent, how to be married, and everything else in between. Do we really want to take our advice and guidance from the world or from the One who created it?
I don’t know about you, but I spent the first twenty one years of my life doing it my own way and I am ever so thankful that I stopped trying to life life my way and stopped listening to the High Sounding Nonsense.
Study His Word.
Learn what He wants you to do.
Grow into all that He has for you.
Father God, as we seek to hear you in the midst of the high sounding nonsense we realize that we have given up so much time being captured by what we want to do that we forgot to filter that through your Word. We want to be people who passionately pursue you by reading your Word and growing into all you have planned for our lives. Thank you Father. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Don’t FORGET to CLICK every day…it counts!
well said and wonderful encouragement!
